REDWOOD JOURNEY

Driving from Boonville to Mendocino, sunshine back-lights the redwood forest. As the car flashes across deep shadows, leaves glow golden green and the tall straight ships masts shine rusty brown. High above the winding pavement, motionless silence reigns. Ahead, streaming red tail lights appear and disappear through timeless darkness. Hunters once stalked this hidden world, aboriginal, unrushed to reach coastal waters. Lime green ferns form primordial tangles around decaying stumps, ancient warriors rotting slowly back to eternity. Thirty more minutes and Ill see fog layers stacked along the swelling Pacific.
